Wollombi Valley

To understand our small farm, you need to get your head around Wollombi Valley. This remote, naturally beautiful valley has been largely left behind by time. Once the major hub on the only road north out of Sydney, it was essentially superseded in regional relevance almost before it got going. Steamships made it redundant, followed by the road and ferry north over the Hawkesbury River at Brooklyn.

Today, it spans around 170,000 acres of very sparsely populated small farms and natural bushland, with just two tiny villages. This area is, in turn, completely surrounded by an even larger expanse of national parks and state forest.

This makes Wollombi Valley both within 2–3 hours of six million people, spread from Maitland to Newcastle to Sydney, and isolated at the same time.

Our relative isolation (45 min to large shops, petrol stations and conveniences) means people have to plan. It is not like the “Hunter Valley” in your imagination with rolling hills of Vineyards - our landscape is dominated by rolling hills of eucalyptus trees and narrow valley floors defined by creek lines.
